Purpose: AVGS is committed to providing the best quality experience for their players. Managing is a privilege and not a right. Managers selected are a reflection upon AVGS and our community. We are committed to encourage, promote and require good sportsmanship, good conduct, and a strong commitment from every player, coach, manager and family member that participates in our league both on and off the field. MANAGERS AND COACHES: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE: The Manager of a softball team is like a manager in business. The Manager is responsible for the entire team and puts the pieces in place on the team and on the field. He/she gathers up the pieces, through evaluations or tryouts, decides what positions they’ll play and when, and shuffles the pieces when the original plan doesn’t work. The Manager is responsible for thoroughly knowing ASA and AVGS rules. Coaches help the Manager and work alongside the Manager at practices and games, under the Manager's methodology. Coaches focus on a player's well being and improving their performance. When the Manager is absent, a coach may assume the Manager's role for a practice or game. Teams typically have at least two coaches in addition to the Manager. More coaches may be necessary on younger teams (6U or 8U) to help further develop players. The Manager must adhere to AVGS Rules to ensure all players are treated fairly, have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of softball and learn good sportsmanship. A signed Coach’s Code of Conduct and Background Check Form, with a copy of your driver’s license attached, must be included with this application. Upon completion of this application, if selecting the manager option below, you will be contacted to set up an interview with the Managerial Selection Committee.
